Accessibility of the Holiday Homes

Our holiday homes are specially designed to provide a comfortable and accessible stay. The homes are spacious, wheelchair accessible and feature an adapted bedroom and bathroom. Below you will find more information about the permanent adaptations and important dimensions.

Are all the holiday homes wheelchair accessible?

Yes, all our holiday homes are wheelchair accessible and all on one level. There are no thresholds inside the holiday homes. Threshold ramps have been installed at the exterior doors, making it easy to enter and leave the home with a wheelchair.

The layout and furnishings of the holiday homes have been designed with sufficient space for movement in mind. This applies to the living room and kitchen as well as the adapted bedroom and bathroom. This provides enough space to move and manoeuvre with a wheelchair.

Each holiday home also has an adapted bedroom and wheelchair-accessible bathroom with an adapted toilet.

What permanent adaptations are available in the bedroom?

The adapted master bedroom is spacious, providing sufficient room to move around, for example with a wheelchair and any mobility aids you may need.

The master bedroom has two electrically adjustable single Auping box-spring beds. One of these beds also has a height-adjustable function, allowing the height of the bed to be adjusted electrically.

Do you need additional mobility aids during your stay, such as a patient lift? You can bring your own or reserve one through us. If you do, we will make sure the mobility aid is ready for you when you arrive.

What permanent adaptations are available in the kitchen and living room?

The living room and kitchen have also been designed with wheelchair use in mind. The spaces are generously laid out and there are no thresholds inside the holiday home, making it easy to move between the different rooms.

Each living room also has a rise-and-recline chair as standard.

What permanent adaptations are available in the bathroom?

Each holiday home has a wheelchair-accessible, adapted bathroom. The exact layout and facilities vary slightly between our Polderhuisjes and Poldervillas.

As the facilities each guest needs may differ, we indicate for each holiday home which permanent adaptations are available and what the most important dimensions are. This allows you to assess in advance whether the bathroom meets your needs.

Do you also need a mobility aid that is not provided as standard? Various mobility aids can be reserved in advance and will be ready for you when you arrive.

What is the height of the toilet?

The adapted toilet in the bathroom has the following heights, measured from the floor:

  • to the top of the toilet bowl: 45.5 cm
  • to the top of the toilet seat: 49 cm

Do you need a specific toilet height for transfers? Please feel free to contact us in advance. We are happy to discuss possible additional mobility aids or adaptations with you.

What is the height of the height-adjustable care bed?

In each adapted master bedroom, one of the two single beds has a height-adjustable function. With the standard mattress, the height of the bed is 63.5 cm, measured from the floor to the top of the mattress. If you need a lower bed, for example for a transfer from a wheelchair, we can provide the bed with a lower mattress. The height is then 60.5 cm.

The height-adjustable bed can also be adjusted electrically. Do you need a specific bed height for care in bed or transfers? Please feel free to contact us in advance. We are happy to discuss the options with you.

Can I use my own patient lift underneath the bed?

Yes. There is enough space underneath the height-adjustable bed in the adapted bedroom to use a patient lift. From experience, we know that our guests are able to use a patient lift comfortably with the bed.

You can therefore bring your own patient lift. If you do not have your own patient lift but need one during your stay, we can also arrange one for you. Please contact us in advance so that we can reserve the mobility aid for your stay.

Can I reach the front door with a wheelchair?

Yes. The roads and paths leading to our holiday homes are paved, so you can reach the holiday home by wheelchair.

Each holiday home has its own parking space near the home. The exact distance from the parking space to the front door varies depending on the holiday home. Is this distance important to you because of your mobility? Please contact us before booking. We can tell you exactly what the situation is at the different holiday homes and discuss together which holiday home best suits you.

The exterior doors have threshold ramps, making it easy to enter the holiday home with a wheelchair.

Is the terrace wheelchair accessible?

Yes. You can access the terrace from the living room through a sliding door. There is a threshold ramp at the exterior door to make the transition outside easier. The terrace itself is paved, making it easy to use with a wheelchair. This means you can also comfortably enjoy the terrace at your holiday home.

How wide are the doorways?

Our doorways are extra wide to provide sufficient clearance, including for wheelchairs.

The widths are:

  • Front door: 103 cm
  • Interior doors: 91 cm
  • Sliding door to the adapted bathroom: 94 cm

The adapted shower does not have a shower door but instead has a shower curtain. This means there is no door restricting access to the shower.

The dimensions are also included in the floor plans of our holiday homes.

Is there a floor plan with the dimensions of the holiday home?

The floor plans showing the layout and key dimensions of each holiday home are currently being developed. Do you need a specific measurement before then to determine whether a holiday home is suitable for you? Please feel free to contact us. We are happy to measure this for you.

What is the difference between a Polderhouse and a Poldervilla?

Both our Polderhuisjes and Poldervillas are wheelchair accessible and have an adapted bedroom and bathroom. The main difference is in the amount of space, layout and level of comfort.

The Polderhuisjes are more compact and have one bathroom. They offer all the important adapted facilities in a comfortable holiday home.

The Poldervillas are newer, more spacious and have a more luxurious look and feel. The 4- and 6-person Poldervillas also have multiple bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which is fully adapted. This makes these homes particularly suitable, for example, if you are staying with family, friends or a family caregiver.

Which type suits you best depends on the number of people, the amount of space you need and your personal preferences regarding accessibility and comfort.
